Dr. Betty C. Tong is an Associate Professor of Surgery and a Member of the Duke Cancer Institute. She received her undergraduate and MS degrees from The Georgia Institute of Technology (1993 and 1995), and her MD degree from Duke University (1999). She completed her General Surgery Residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital (1999-2005) and Thoracic Surgery Residency at Duke University (2005-2008). She also obtained her MHS degree from Johns Hopkins University (2009). Dr. Tong specializes in general thoracic surgery, including treatment of both benign and malignant diseases of the lung, chest wall and esophagus. Her research interests include lung cancer screening, health services research in thoracic surgery, thoracic surgery education, and minimally invasive thoracic surgical techniques.
