Lieven Depypere is consultant general thoracic surgeon in the department of thoracic surgery of the university hospitals of Leuven, Belgium. He had his surgical and general thoracic training in Leuven (Belgium) and did clinical fellowships in Marseille (France) and Guangzhou (China). In 2016 he became European Board certified thoracic surgeon (FEBTS) and in 2017 he became European Board certified esophagogastric surgeon (FEBS/OG). In 2019 he finished his PhD on the “impact of multimodality therapy in esophageal cancer on disease, patient and treatment”.

Lieven Depypere is member of the ESTS learning affairs committee and webinar coordinator of the ESTS (European Society of Thoracic Surgeons). He is also member of the European and International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus (ESDE and ISDE) and different national societies.

Lieven Depypere performs lung resections (open as well as VATS), lung transplantations and esophageal surgery (open and minimally invasive) for benign as well as malignant diseases. His special interest goes to curative esophageal cancer treatment and its multimodal aspects. Further interests in thoracic surgery fields are surgical education, resection of lung metastases and non-intubated thoracic surgery.
