Laureano Molins was born in 1957 in Barcelona. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Barcelona in 1981 and received his Doctor (PhD) in Medicine and Surgery "Cum Laude" by the same University in 1995. He was a specialist in General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery after the residency at the Red Cross Hospital and Sagrat Cor in Barcelona and a fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital and New England Deaconess Hospital (Harvard Medical School).

Dr. Molins has joined the European Board of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery since 2001 and has been Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Barcelona since 1995; He is accredited by the Spanish agency ANECA and the Catalan AQU as Full Professor. His professional thoracic surgical work began at the Sagrado Corazón University Hospital (1990) and become Director of the Service (2000). He is today Consultant and has become the Head of Thoracic Surgery Service of Hospital Clínic in Barcelona since 2010.

Dr. Molins belongs to several International Scientific Societies such as the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons [ESTS, Founder and President (2008-2009)], Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), USA, member of the Workforce on International Relationships (2010-2016), American Association of Thoracic Surgery, (AATS), European Respiratory Society (ERS, Chair of Thoracic Surgery), International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) and other Societies in Spain like SEPAR (Magisterial Lesson in 2015) and SECT among others.

He has presented more than 550 communications to National and International Congresses. He was Visiting Professor at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School in 2009, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, USA and Shangai Pulmonary Hospital, China in 2016.

Dr. Molins has published 130 articles in National and International Journals and Books. He was the Director of the International Meeting of Thoracic Surgery of Barcelona in nine editions (1992-2018) and was the Co-President of the 11th World Conference on Lung Cancer (Barcelona 2005). Involved in the fight against smoking and lung cancer, he was the President of the AECC-Catalunya against Cancer and Member of the Royal European Academy of Doctors (2017).
