Dr. Welter graduated and received his medical degree from Johannes-Gutenberg University Mainz, Medical School. He completed his Thoracic Surgery Residency at Ruhrlandklinik Essen, Teaching Hospital of the University of Duisburg-Essen. Dr. Welter joined the faculty at the University of Duisburg-Essen where he became Associate Professor in 2013. He was recruited to Lung Clinic Hemer as Chief of Thoracic Surgery in 2017. He has been the Head of the Thoracic Surgery Department in the Evangelical Hospital in Hamm, Germany since 4/2019.
Dr. Welter invented a method for endotracheal repair of iatrogenic tracheal lacerations in 2012. Dr. Welter`s research focuses on outcome parameters after pulmonary metastasectomy, safety margins and preoperative imaging. Dr. Welter has published over 45 papers and has written over 5 book chapters. He is a certified auditor and expert for German lung cancer centers and active in quality control of the German Association of Thoracic Surgeons and member of two German Guideline committees.
