Emmanuel Martinod is Full Professor of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at Assistance Publique Hôpitaux de Paris, University Paris 13 (2006-currently). He is the Head of the Thoracic and Vascular Surgery Unit, Assistance Publique Hôpitaux de Paris, Hôpitaux Universitaires Paris Seine Saint Denis HUPSSD, Avicenne Hospital, SMBH School of Medicine, Sorbonne Paris Cité, Paris 13 University, Bobigny, France (2012-currently). He is the Head of the Pôle Activités Cancérologiques Spécialisées (2017-currently). He graduated as a Medical Doctor (MD) in 1999 and as a PhD in 2003. He was elected as a member of the Hospital’s Management Committee CMEL (2008-currently).

He was a member of the Paris-Nord Ethics Committee for Research CEERB (2009-2011). He was appointed president of the Operating Theatre Council (2011-2017). He was appointed APHP medical counsel in the court cases of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery (2017-currently). He is Vice-Dean of SMBH School of Medicine, Paris 13 University (2018-currently) and Co-Director of the National Master of Surgical Science, France. He is affiliated with the Laboratory Hypoxia and Lung INSERM UMR 1272, Paris 13 University, Sorbonne Paris Cité, SMBH School of Medicine, Bobigny, France (C. He was elected as a member of administrative council of The Alain Carpentier Foundation (2019). He is a member of the French Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Society SFCTCV (2006-currently) and the president of the French Association “Génération Thorax” (2007-currently). He is a member of the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery EACTS, the World Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology WABIP, the European Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology EABIP and the Groupe d’Endoscopie de Langue Française GELF.

He received the Academy of Medicine Award (2004), the Academy of Science Award (2008) and the Academy of Surgery Award (2019) for his experimental and clinical research on tracheal transplantation using stented aortic matrices (Laboratory for Bio-surgical Research, Alain Carpentier Foundation). He also received the Prix Galien for Medical Innovation, France (2018) just after the JAMA publication reporting the first human applications (n=13) of this innovative approach to airway transplantation. He received the Médaille de Bronze du Service National (1996) and was promoted to the grade of Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite (2015).
