Chang Chen, MD, PhD

Dr. Chang Chen is now Professor of Surgery, Deputy director of MD. PhD. Program in Thoracic Surgery and Vice President of Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital.

Dr. Chen attended Nanjing University School of Medicine where he received his B.S. Degree (Clinical medicine) in 1995 and M.D. Degree in 1997. And then he obtained a Ph.D. Degree in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery from Soochow University in 2009. After completing his Residency at Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital, Tongji University School of Medicine from 1997 to 1999, he became the Chief Resident in General and Thoracic Surgery in 1999. He continued his study and training as Visiting Scholar (sponsored by China Scholarship Council) at the Washington University School of Medicine, St Louis, Missouri from July 2002 to July 2003 and as Visiting Scholar at Marie Lannelongue Hospital, France from Sept to Oct in 2010.

He joined the staff of the Department of Thoracic Surgery, Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital in 2000 as attending surgeon and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2005 and has been the Professor and Vice Chair of the Department since 2010. He has also been the Deputy Director of MD. PhD. Program of Tongji University School of Medicine since 2011 and the Vice President of Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital since 2013.

Dr. Chen has received numerous awards, such as Ministry of Education Science and Technology Progress Award in 2006, Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award in 2007, Award of Shanghai Medical Innovation in 2012 and 2016 as well as Shanghai Leading Talent Award, Shanghai Government in 2015.

Dr. Chen’s interests include Lung Cancer Surgery, Minimally Invasive surgery, Trachea Surgery and Lung Transplantation.
