Gening Jiang is Professor of Surgery and Doctoral Supervisor at Tongji University. He has served as the Chief of the Department of Thoracic Surgery of Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital since 2004. Prof. Jiang received his Bachelor of Medicine from Shanghai Second Medical University (now Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine) in1982. He was a visiting scholar at Mayo Clinic and Barnes-Jewish Hospital from 1999 to 2000.

Prof. Jiang is a recognized expert in diagnosis and surgical treatments for pulmonary, esophageal and mediastinal tumors. He is also specialized in Thoracoscopic Surgeries, Tracheal or Bronchial Stent Placement, Lung Volume Reduction etc. He is the recipient of numerous awards for outstand achievements in thoracic surgery, including the First Prize of National Award for Science and Technology, Shanghai Municipal Award for Medical Leading Scientist and Shanghai Municipal Award for Science and Technology, etc.

He has been active and held leadership positions in numerous organizations. He is Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) and member of the American College of Thoracic Surgery (AATS). Besides, He is Vice President of Endoscopic Professional Technique Committee for Cardio-thoracic Surgery, Ministry of Health and President of Shanghai Medical Society for Thoracic Surgery, as well as Member of Clinical Guideline Committee, Ministry of Health and Chinese Society for Cardiovascular Surgery, etc.

He serves as Associate Editor for Chinese Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Editorial Board on Chinese Journal of Clinical Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and Chinese Journal of Organ Transplantation. He is the author of more than 125 articles in SCI indexed journals, including J Thorac Cardiovasc Surg, J Clin Oncol and Ann Thorac Surg, etc.


Editor-in-Chief: Douglas J. Mathisen, MD

Dr. Mathisen recently stepped down after 25 years as the Chief of the Division of Thoracic Surgery and Visiting Surgeon at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA. He is the Distinguished Hermes C. Grillo Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School.

He received his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 1974 and was AOA. He was a general surgery resident and cardiothoracic resident at the Massachusetts General Hospital from July, 1974 to December, 1982. He spent 2 years in the Surgery Branch of the National Cancer Institute of Health, Bethesda, Maryland. He spent 6 months at the Western Chest Hospital, Southampton, England, during his general surgery residency. He joined Massachusetts General’s Thoracic Surgery unit in 1984.

He is a past Director of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, past President of the Thoracic Surgery Directors Association, past Chairman of the Residency Review Committee, past Treasurer, past President of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and Councilor of the European Association of Cardio-thoracic Surgery. He has held numerous other positions in national medical organizations. He has published over 400 articles and book chapters and written 5 books.

At the MGH he has been Chief of Thoracic Surgery from 1994 to 2019, Chief of Cardiac Surgery 2007-2011, and Program Director in Cardiothoracic Surgery 1995-2018. He was a previous member of the Physicians Organization Executive Committee, Board of Directors and General Executive Committee. He has been the Director or Co-Director of a highly successful Postgraduate Course in Thoracic Surgery since 1985. Dr. Mathisen received the Distinguished Service Award from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons at the 2014 Annual Meeting. He is an Honorary Member of the European Society of Thoracic Surgery, Honorary Member, Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland and Honorary Member, Canadian Association of Thoracic Surgeons.
